That’s really nice that Ms. Berger lets someone grab a snack at midnight! Of course, you’d hope Quill’s nickname isn’t Gizmo……

I’ve a feeling Gunther is having second thoughts of having Quill as a roommate and surrogate brother.
Caldonia about 11 years ago
Koala bears sleep in trees. Sad. Gunther should make blankets for them, donate to Australia’s version of PETA.

Quill is loving all the attention from ‘Mom’.
honeysum about 11 years ago
Typically, Gunther is embarrassed by his doting mom. Teens wish their parents were invisible. They are unwelcome in their world. I did not like mine knowing what I was doing in my world for some reason. Greg is right on, about teen nature.

And if you want to know where my bedroom is, it’s at the end of the hall with the Barry White music playing.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~I’m surprised at the number of posters here who play out their sexual fantasies over some cartoon characters.

I hope we start a new arc Mon… without MPQ

Interesting how everyone is loving the attention, though not from the same perspective! I’ve always thought that life is just that…. It’s all in your perspective!!

I’m sorry if my abreviated name leads you to more fantasies,

Quill should have told Gunther’s mom that when he lived at his parent’s house, he simply kept a plastic bucket next to the bed!

She is love. The best she knowshow. Too bad there’s not morelike her.

It seems like both Gunther and his Mom are a bit lonely and are thirsting for validation. they are competing with each other for Quill’s attention.
kenhense about 11 years ago
Whew! Maybe Toni could have a talk with her.

That, too, shall pass, when Quill starts spending more time with Luann and her family. Gunther just might get so jealous about Quill being gone so much that he asks him to find another place to live. The current situation will definitely not last forever.
Would not be surprised, in a few weeks, to learn that Quill’s dad has made a return visit to town to visit his son…and to take him home with him again.

All moms are like that! Irritating to our teenaged sensibilities, but loving us nonetheless. Bless them all!

Sorry for the multiple comments. There is a flashing advertisement at the bottom of my page that won’t let me delete the comment. As soon as I click on the comment it flashes like crazy and creates another copy instead of deleting as usual. I apologize.

Love Mom Berger’s plaid dress! But, tucking in two 17/18 year olds? I know that we don’t see her physically tucking them in, but, they are tucked in.
jeanie5448 about 11 years ago
I think Gunther’s mom is cute, she is nervous about having a guest in the house and just wants to make him feel at home. I think Quill might just be liking the attention since he doesn’t have a mom. Things will settle down to a normal household soon enough.
TORAD_07 about 11 years ago
LOL! I really have to wonder if Ms. B is simply trying to “Get Gunther’s Goat” a little. Maybe the “boy named sue” approach, just a tad… I can’t believe she’s that “locked in time” in re: her treatment of either Gunth or Quill. Then again, my family elders still call me by my childhood nickname…{huge sigh}

Ma Berger’s GREAT, isn’t she Pretty Boy?
BAKES You Laced Cookies. TUCKS You IN at Night. Leaves You Slices of artery Clogging Angel Food Cake. She Even gives You Scheduled Bathroom Breaks.
Just THINK: Luann’s like THAT too, Q-Ball, You Lucky Foreign Bastage You .
……,Until After You Marry Her, that is.
THEN She Turns Into Grendel’s Mother….,

It might be nice for the author of this strip to take five seconds to Google some Aussie slang and use something an Australian might actually say.
Ichabod Ferguson about 11 years ago
Up till now, Quill’s been something of a blank slate of a character. Developing his personality through his relationship with Gunther is an inspired move. Maybe he’ll become something of a big brother/mentor to the fatherless Gunther while fleshing out his own character in the strip.
Contessa Carrington about 11 years ago
Poor Quill…he is caught between the two of them. He is trying to be so respectful to Mrs. Berger and still maintain his friend status with Gunther.
Argy.Bargy2 about 11 years ago
Great recipe. I copied it to the computer and will give it a try soon. Many thanks ! :)

Hmph. I think she’s just one of those sweet ladies who needed about 4 or 5 kids to fuss over.
dblbaraje about 11 years ago
Amazing how some kids are ignored by their parents and turn out wonderful. Others are given love and turn out to be bums.
Willow Mt Lyon about 11 years ago
Gunther’s mom reminds me of my mom when we had guests over, except that I had to sleep with her while the guests got my double bed. When we didn’t have guests, her mania dominated her personality. I wonder if Gunther’s mom is bipolar.

Some people are just plain nice and caring. she’ll get the message… give her a little time.
capricorn9th about 11 years ago
WHO boys their age allow his mother tuck them in?? Or dictate their bedtime?? They are seniors, getting ready to leave the nest. Teenagers at that age choose their own bedtime and definitely don’t want parents to come in and say goodnight. That is too childish. I stopped doing that when my sons started high school. They did have to be in bed by 11 on school nights but on weekends, they sleep whenever they wanted to. Their senior years, they chose their own bedtime and they slept when they were tired and not before.

For people who enjoy give and take with a cartoonist, there is a good discussion today on the board for Non Sequiter. Not a funny discussion, but a very good one. Wiley has responded to a number of comments. Good stuff.

It is odd to have a bedroom without a door. It was built that way, otherwise there would be some hardware on the right side, some hinges or a place for the latch to go.

“Tinkle, tinkle, little QuillGunther’s Mom makes me feel ill.”
Willow Mt Lyon about 11 years ago
If you don’t understand, then you are lucky to have never lived with one who acts like they can’t do enough for guests but treats family members the complete opposite.
Argy.Bargy2 about 11 years ago
No one’s mother or father ‘makes’ them gay by fussing over them. Sexual orientation is biological. A person is attracted or not attracted to someone due to whatever is within the person who is feeling the attraction. You are confusing sexual orientation with what happens if someone is abused at a young age, and there is no connection between a person’s inborn inclination to be attracted to someone of either their own gender or the opposite, and someone who was abused.
seismic-2 Premium Member about 11 years ago
Mrs. Berger takes advantage of the missing door to barge into Gunther’s bedroom any time she wants. She is probably responsible for taking it down. But honestly… “tinkle”? She talks like that to an 18-year-old?
Terrywoebegone about 11 years ago
In his attempt to be manly G is being rude. She may be a little cloying but she could just have easily not consented for him to live there. Back off sonny, she’ll grow into it.

This is Quill’s third senior year. He was a senior when he moved to Pitt with his parents, he was a second-year senior when he was back in Australia (and he was just 2 months away from graduating when he dropped out to return to the USA!!!), and now he is a third-year senior back at Pitt. I’d say he’s an 18-year-old by now. (And even if he weren’t, he’s still way too old to refer to urination as “tinkling”!)
overtherainbow about 11 years ago
I’m enjoying this arc, and I like Quill better now, seeing him interacting with other people instead of simply worshiping Luann. That’s a relief, since it looks like he’s going to be around for a while.

“Motel M8”? (Pronounced “mate”)… ^Clever one, that was, aye!
JayBluE about 11 years ago
So tired, huh? Maybe that’s why he seemed so cool and “flat” (even for a comic strip character) to me … the guy didn’t get to have any rest!…… Every time he was in the US, maybe he just wasn’t fully recovered from jet lag, ha ha!…. And y’know, when you just wanna sleep, your friends, and the kids and the spouse know they have you just where they want you, Lol!
ORMouseworks about 11 years ago
Too many Mom-isms, Mrs. Berger…but at least you genuinely care for Quill… ;)
