When one door closes, another opens. But often we look so long at the closed door... that we do not see the one which has been opened for us. -Helen Keller
Not exactly pertinent, but I always remember the lyrics from “Carousel”:.“If I loved you,Time and again I would try to sayAll I’d want you to know.If I loved you,Words wouldn’t come in an easy wayRound in circles I’d go!Longin’ to tell you,But afraid and shyI’d let my golden chances pass me by!Soon you’d leave me,Off you would go in the mist of day,Never, never to knowHow I loved youIf I loved you.”.Corny as it sounds, remembering “I’d let my golden chances pass me by” helped me several times avoid doing exactly that in various situations.
Best thing that ever happened to me was getting laid off from the job I hated with a fiery passion. Of course, what haunts me today is whether I fully optimized the opportunities that followed that “disaster”.
Knock and the door will open.If it does not…..find another door.First part about bad news is the depression part. One can come out of it and continue.Just takes time….which is a luxury many do not have.So don’t wait too long.
So he should…take a vacation? Do volunteer work? Take senior enrichment courses? Obviously he should just plan on being one of the long-term unemployed. None of these “opportunities” pays the bills…
