Well after all…. Arnie’s dead isn’t he?And it’s not like they were great friends…. and they hardly know anybody else here…. what do the feelings of strangers mean to them?
In fact, I’m not even sure they knew Arnie at all…. he was 78.They may be dining in the room with his funeral banquet just because they saw an empty table.Or even hoping that their “hosts” are going to pick up the tab for everyone there.
You can bet, though, that if it’s the sort of pre-arranged meal where everyone gets the same dinner, they’ll be inquiring none too subtly about the disposition of the leftovers….They’ll lie about bringing dinner home to Joy’s elderly mother…She couldn’t make it tonight…. too broken up over Arnie’s passing.
I am sure they recognize them as seeming to have a birthday for the free dessert almost every time they come in. -Besides, they are already mooching for free at the Spitz memorial function. I wonder if they watch they obits for free funeral lunches
Looks like the rest of the crowd is already leaving, but Joy still expects to get all she can from the event.
News this morning (just finished my lime juice) reminded me that it has been 50 years since assassination of JFK. It does not seem like yesterday, but certainly not that long ago.

At least we know why they went to “Big Deals+” yesterday; sympathy card and another too-short tie.

If those two were in Arnie’s life, he may not have died happy, but he was probably happy to die.

So much for the excuse that the sloppy cartooning only looks that way because the Dinette Set is set many years ago.
