If not in a hurry, I always place my cutlery and sit back from the table to make it clear when I’m done (and if they don’t get the hint, place a napkin on top) but I agree that asking if you are “working on that” is an annoyance (I like to continue with a good salad during my dinner) especially with lots of blue cheese on it (which is sometimes extra).

I’m just the opposite. I don’t want the wait staff to stay away afraid that I’m not done.

Does anyone actually use chopsticks with the left hand? I manage with my right just fine but I’m curious.
