I think everything in Crustwood…. people, dogs, squirrels, chickens….you name it….crosses the road if Burl is headed their way.
He doesn’t understand why he never gets mosquito bites….
Even mosquito mothers stick around to teach their young to stay away from him …. a pretty good trick, since they usually just lay eggs and never look back.
But they don’t want Burl wrecking all their babies little mosquito jokes just when they’re learning their biting humor.
I think the answer is “Burl”, he thinks he is a real hot dog and Joy does to, I’ll bet she doesn’t know the answer to any kids jokes. Nothing like showing off your 4th grade level intelligence to a kid – those thoughtless buffoons.
Nothing changed here. According to Julie’s notes, they are looking forward to another Hallmark Holiday while Burl holds his wet blanket and spoils the joke. They will watch game shows twice (because they missed the winner first time). No surprise party (silly idea anyway).
My only surprise birthday party was in 1962 (when I arrived home after birth of our 3rd son), my dear husband thought it was a great idea to have all our friends at our house to greet me (with me a mess with nothing that fit and the house a mess because M-I-L was staying to watch the others).
My kids called those “popsicle stick” jokes. Burl has probably eaten many cases over the years; so many that he considers it “CEU” credits for his “MIT” (moron in training) degree.
What a jerk, once again I mourn Patty’s childhood. Can you imagine having Burl as your Dad and Joy fawning over everything he said? Her therapy bill must be huge!
@Saucy, Right! They memorize the answers, then invite someone over to impress with a huge knowledge of trivia (or whatever).@Orben, I did not notice but Timmy IS nearing the Ding Dongs (which will be given as such a treat that he will grow up with an unhealthy desire for excessive sweets).
Years later, when Timmy had them all imprisoned in his pit, and commanded them: “It puts the lotion on it’s skin,” would be the day he finally had his revenge.

I’m not so sure who is the adult or who is smarter here. First off, I know it’s not Burl. If it’s not Timmy, maybe it’s someone off-strip.

When my brother was little it was his favorite joke. But he told it; “Why does a dog lie in the sun?”

Burl savages Timmy’s honest attempt at funsy-funsy just as the kid’s hand hovers menacingly over the defenseless ding-dongs cache! Oi!! THE DRAMA!!
