My first car came without a radio or heater. It had “radio delete” and “heater delete” as an option on the window sticker. Of course, the car companies don’t make as much money if they can’t sell you something you don’t want…..
I bought a cheap little old Ford Ranger 22 years ago withpower steering, brakes, air , cruise control, radio and heater, and auto trans. Still have it! My first car with all those goodies and I love it! Still got it, it’s now a member of the family.
" They’re animals with fur coats who…don’t need AC? They are sweaty smelly animals?
So basically pluggers are both stupid and smelly. This one just illustrates how very stupid and smelly."~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~You’re in your twenties, right?
I’m sure someone will correct me if I’m wrong about this, but I think automobile makers offer popular options in “packages”, as a way of streamlining the manufacturing process, which helps to keep costs down. A “special order” car (without AC, for example), requires extra attention while on the assembly line, which slows down production time.
Get it anyway. At the rate things are going, you will be needing it even in the arctic. Won’t be able to afford the gas, but will need the AC, however you can figure out how to work it.
Lassie1: You have it backwards. The dirty pickups work for a living and so do their owners. It’s the shiny ones that don’t earn their keep, nor do the owners do anything productive.
When I was a teenager and first dating, many old cars did not have heaters. This required that I sit very close to my date (who was driving) to keep us both warm. Hey! I wonder if that car really DID have a heater?! Ya think?
A friend of mine once decide to put AC in his truck. He went to a junk yard and got everything he needed off a truck like his that had AC. He was so proud of his self getting it all installed and hooked up. He started it up and cold air came out the vent. He was so happy. The phone rang and he just left the truck and AC running while he was on the phone. Boy did he get a big surprise when he came back out side. All the windows were covered with frost. He did not know the difference between R12 and R22. You could be driving down the road and see ’snow flakes" shoot out the vents every so often. It worked so he left it that way.
Air Conditioning is very important in South Central Texas. If you have a choice between two similar used cars where one has a bad air conditioner and the other one has bad brakes, most people here would choose the one with bad breaks.
I often wonder if the dealers get customers looking for a car without all the ‘magical’ instruments located on the dashboard these days. That would be me. I have a car that I’ve owned for almost twenty years and I’ve never used the cruise control device.

Don’t want AC? Just don’t turn on the AC!
edclectic about 11 years ago
For some others, besides pluggers, that seems to include turn signals.

Makes no sense, even for a plugger, to suffer from the heat.

Some pluggers HAVE to use A/C. Talking about those who are allergic to things like bees.

Friend of mine who was with the Coast Guard bought a car while he was stationed on Guam. It didn’t have A/C OR a heater.

Porsche is discontinuing manual transmissions.
The PDK 7-speed (automatic that can be manually shifted if you like) will be the default or standard transmission.
Manual transmission will be available as an option for a limited time.

What on earth is compelling you to read “Pluggers”? You do know how to unsubscribe from a comic strip, right? Even us “Pluggers” know how to do that!

I drove manual-shift VW bugs for YEARS. Now have a PriusC; love it but still miss manual shift.

watr: Except for the time I noticed it was on, but not engaged, and turned it off, I have never used mine either.
