Um… the War Between the States wasn’t exactly the epitome of “democracy”.

I always found it funny that the only member of ZZ Top who didn’t have a beard was NAMED “Beard”!

I haven’t shaved since 1979. Was called ZZ for 25 years, now I get Duck Dynasty mentioned to me nearly every day instead and with Christmas coming up it will be Santa for the next 2 months.

Okay, I got them all except “Robertson”. And googling such a common name doesn’t seem promising.

Lincoln didn’t free the slaves though. False common knowledge.

it “didn’t immediately free a single slave, as the only places it applied were places where the federal government had no control—the Southern states currently fighting against the Union.”

Also, “it didn’t apply to border slave states like Delaware, Maryland, Kentucky and Missouri, all of which had remained loyal to the Union.”

My wife trims mine every so often to clean up the split ends. The worse part is riding my Harley with my beard blowing back under my arm pits.

My family was also on both sides, I’ve read up a great deal on the civil war. Slavery was the ‘spin’, truth be told it was more about economics and change than slavery. But slavery was what got the press and the public riled up. Saying that “We want to leave the union because those damn Yankees are too durn economically progressive for us to compete with” just didn’t have the same ring.Fear of change nailed the coffin lid down. Slavery was the symptom everyone could see and be repulsed by.

My older brother could grow a really good beard, along the tweed-jacket-and-pipe line, and went back and forth between beard and clean for years. As we got older I noticed that the hair on his head stayed nice and dark and his beard got all the gray. (Since then I’ve noticed that on a lot of men.) I, on the other hand, look like a spotlight in a black-out if I don’t color. Where’s the fair???
