Ma just has to stretch to try to find some reason to brag about Joy, but mothers WILL brag about at least one of their children (I brag about specific ones when they do something new, like the charity video my daughter recently produced and directed).
High school is a land mine for most girls, but Joy (and Verla) are so clueless that they had no idea they were waaaaaaay down in the pecking order. They didn’t even see the other girls snickering at their black polyester pants and “colorful” blouses. Their out of style (ok, no style) hair do’s and sensible shoes (Ma bought their clothes). So even small victories were celebrated, for Ma thought her girls were priceless!
