Merry Christmas! Isaiah 9:6“For unto us a child is born; unto us a Son is given. And the government shall be upon his shoulder; and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince Of Peace.”
My mother was always petrified of guns, but made sure that my brothers all had toy guns. Unfortunately, I wanted one, but she said that “girls don’t play with guns”. When I met my husband, for our first Valentine’s Day, he bought me a .22 rifle. I have a marksman’s medal and am an excellent shot. We teach our daughters firearm safety and responsibility and, when they’re a little older, taking them target shooting. (Incidentally, my husband is in law enforcement.)
I can understand her feelings but I played with guns as a young boy. My friends and I knew it was just ‘pretend’. My dad also had a shotgun which when I was older was allowed to use when we went hunting. I also grew up with a police officer in the family and was aware of the guns he used in the ‘line of duty’. I don’t believe it affected me one way or the other while not opposed to guns I do believe in the governments right to restrict certain types of guns and certain individuals right to own any gun. Sorry ‘for getting on my soapbox’ today. Joyous and glorious Holidays to all ! ! !
“…….. than to be around the PC, no-tolerance BS libtards.”~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~liberal (lîb´er-el, lîb´rel) adjective
Not limited to or by established, traditional, orthodox, or authoritarian attitudes, views, or dogmas; free from bigotry. Favoring proposals for reform, open to new ideas for progress, and tolerant of the ideas and behavior of others; broad-minded. Of, relating to, or characteristic of liberalism.
I was the bad dad because I wouldn’t allow paintball guns. I bought him a real gun, but since paint balls are for shooting people, I would not allow it. 30 years later, I am still a s___ head and he still doesn’t understand.
And Lynn needs to lighten up. Guns are boy’s toys. Any kid worth his salt has played with rubber band guns or nerf dart guns, cap guns, cock-and-pops, etc. Part of being a kid.
And when you get older, like me, you graduate from toys to tools…and practice until you’re good enough to put food on the table or eliminate a threat to yourself or your family.
There were tons of Westerns and War shows on TV when I was a kid (1960s) so plenty of toys were guns. However, I turned out OK. Never shot anyone in almost 60 years of life.
When I was young, I had a toy gun. I also had strict instructions NEVER to point it at anyone. Unfortunately, we live in a world where the “bad guys” have guns, and no law will disarm them. It has been proven several times in recent years that evil people will go to gun-free zones to commit mass murder because they prefer not to go where someone might shoot back. For the safety of the people, it is imperative that the right to bear arms not be abridged and “self-defence prohibited” zones be generally abolished. Unconstitutional gun suppression legislation is costing too many innocent lives.
I don’t see anything overtly or covertly political with the strip. I see a comment on gun safety. Safety is not political. From a young age I was taught to never point a gun at a person whether toy or real. I think the people teaching me were conservative but they could have been liberal. It was never brought up when they were teaching me how to safely handle a gun.
If we truly believed, and celebrated CHRISTmas all year, what a wonderful world it would be. It’s too bad Lynn felt she had to make a political statement on this JOYous day. God bless you all.
A gun is a tool, Lynn, no better or worse than any other tool, a shovel, an axe, or anything. A gun is only as bad or as good as the man using it. Remember that.
It wasn’t such a big deal hot button topic back in 1984 — folks were a little saner about such issues then. I think a mother has the perfect right to tell her child that she doesn’t like a particular toy — it’s only in America that it becomes a political issue because it has been used to divide the masses.
