Transcript:
Janis: What did you tell them? Kevin Costner in "JFK"?
Arlo: Ha, ha.
Arlo: I'll have you know, geeks are in!
Janis: They can smell a flip-phone a mile away!
Janis: They'll tear you to shreds!
I’ve had to wear glasses since the summer before I entered 3rd grade. I’m pushing 63 and you can bet the glasses back then weren’t exactly the friendliest for a kid. Nowadays, you can get really classy looking frames that can either enhance your face or frames that allow people to see your face rather than the glasses.
I have found that when people get their very first pair of glasses, they almost always select the nerdiest, clunkiest frames available. Why is that?
I have been wearing glasses since I was 7. With a new pair on average of 4 years, it has taken 53 years and 13 generations of different frames for me to be the cool, spectacled guy that I am today.
I’ve needed to wear glasses since jr. high but, my stepmother thought I wanted them because I saw someone else wearing them. Who WANTED to wear glasses if they didn’t need to? When I finally got grown and went to work I bought my own. Could never wear contacts. I was nearsighted until I had cataract surgery a few years ago. Now I can see miles down the road but, can’t read what’s right in front of me. Go figure

I’m still putting it off. I can see two miles down the road, just cannot see a hymnal without readers.

I am flummoxed by Janis’ comment. Kevin Costner in JFK? Was there a recent movie or something?
mike scott almost 11 years ago
Been wearing the same frames for 40+ years, they’ve been considered cool a few times.
