I just returned from a 04:00, 40 degree ride to Walgreens. Yes, that is a reason, but I didn’t really have to go. Anyway, it was only a 2 mile round trip.

I love biking and I spend a good bit of winter outside, but I just can’t get my head around winter biking. Maybe if it’s dry, but too often there’s ice, slush, salt (just as bad for bikes as it is for cars) and other crud on the roads. i just can’t do it.

Miss Plainwell’s comment would explain why after every mass murder someone asks “What could have caused him to do that?” They should realize there is no rational explanation for irrationality.

Against the wind, in 3 ft of snow, under the blazing sun…

We went out for our end of the year century Saturday, but I bailed after 60 due to an asthma attack. If they hadn’t done a sprint zone I’d have been fine, but my lungs just can’t take heavy exertion in the cold.

Nothing concentrates your mind like riding a motorcycle on packed snow. I did that once, not intentionally. I caught a load of good natured teasing when my co-workers found I was “the crazy SOB” they watched. A win-win, everyone had a laugh and I didn’t crash. :-)

As usual, Nighty, we differ on fundamentals. As Aristotle put it, man is the rational animal, and no amount of individual or mass irrationality changes the fact that it is by reason we survive, whether our’s or other’s.

Actually, I just hate the patronizing superior attitude used to address the seemingly irrational act.
Sorta like, “Those fools! Can’t they see what is obvious only to me?”

Which explains conspiracy theorists.

I used to bike to school when I was in college, even in the winter, even when it snowed. But it was just about transportation. I wasn’t trying to prove a point.
