I have a dog like that. That is, getting out was a game. He has an acre to run on, inside fences, but getting out was a lot of fun til I chained him to a post in the middle of the yard for a whole day. Then he knew it was more fun to stay in. That acre is plenty big enough.
@Susan Newman: You do realize that this strip’s character of Elly is based on Lynn (the author of the strip), right?! Comic strips aren’t your personal dumping ground. If you can’t say something nice, it is not necessary to share your comment.
Don’t forget…she’ll yell at John for not getting Farley the license and collar, too.
Thing is, sheepdawg81, if you’re going to put yourself out there in public (whether it’s a politician or a cartoonist), you’re fair game for criticism. In the USA, they call it that pesky First Amendment thingy. Let Susan be free to express her opinion and leave the censorship to the North Koreans and Cubans.
If you dislike Elly as much as you claim – why do you read the strip?Really, read something else. Do your blood pressure a favor. Think of lowering that excess stomach acid. Switch to Dick Tracy. You can thank me later.
-Is there a correlation between nearly getting run over by a bus and cancer?-I can’t speak for or interpret Lynn, but I know that our family lost a tiny dog that followed my sister to school and wasn’t seen by a driver. So, when our next dog came along, attention was paid a lot more carefully about whether the pooch had slipped outside or not….
@SUSAN NEWMAN Then why on earth do you read it, since it’s a COMIC (with trials and travails and foibles exaggerated) about Lynn? She’s making fun of herself. Relax.. Go read Andy Capp. Hue’s much more fun to ‘admire.’
@ Lucyfur also @ goblue and NightShade….Actually, Susan did lighten up and maybe trying to make amends. You didn’t notice the smile at the end? We all carp at different things, and this with Farley really pushed my buttons, and I had a dog who used to regularly climb the fence because I have the attention span of a gnat. If Susan can go read someone else’s strip, so can anyone who doesn’t want to read her comments skip them. Carp away, y’all, God knows it’s better than shooting at people. Just keep it clean and, if you can, give us a smile at the end so we don’t take it personally. ;-)
True lost dog story: Years ago I worked for a vet. One day our bookkeeper went tearing out of the building, across the road, up the opposite embankment onto the 8-lane east of us. She came back with a dirty ball of white dog fur she had seen bounce off a couple of cars. Miraculously the ball of fur was unhurt, just as scared as a living being could be. We were a holding hospital for the local police, keeping strays for the today-unheard-of-time of ten days. The days past; Ball of Fur snarled, showed teeth and crammed herself into the back of her run whenever we came to bring food, water or to clean. She was a mess and wouldn’t let us near her to clean her up. Mean little beggar, I thought. The days went by and her life span waned. Almost at the end of her stay a family came in saying their dog had escaped while they were on vacation. We brought them back to BoF’s run. She snarled; they frowned; not our dog!; they stared; BoF stared; BoF took a step forward; they stared; tail wag; eyes widen; more tail wag…..PEPPER!!!! BoF, nee Pepper, leaps into their arms wagging her tail fit to break, licking anything her tongue can reach. She was just one scared, abandoned (she thought) dog who tried to follow her people — right onto the 8-lane. Still gets me to remember. Just this once, everybody LIVES!
We have a chihuahua that takes off any time she thinks we will chase her, a great game. Believe me, it is easier to catch a cat, the dog catcher would have a lot of exercise.

The last time I had to bail out an escapee, it was $75 bucks – and that was a really long time ago.

I enjoy reading Lynn’s Notes and don’t have access to them myself, so I appreciate it when Night-Gaunt49 posts them. I’m sure others enjoy them, too.

Yeah, I knew you were being sarcastic. I have to be careful. I was banned from this board temporarily because of the way I responded to her once….
