In the traditional Christmas celebrations in Latin American countries Christmas Eve is about celebrating the birth of Christ and the gift giving is on January 6. In the story it took the Magi from December 24 to January 6 to follow the Nativity star and arrive to the location of the newborn King to present their gifts. In Puerto Rico this custom is still practiced along with the influence of the US of Santa Claus. The parents give the expensive gift on Christmas Day and token gift on Three Kings day. The kids have the impression that Santa Claus have deep pockets and the three Magi are scraping by.
Reminded of one time as a teen I convinced some younger cousins that the blinking red light on top of a radio tower was Rudolph. Please pray for them if you pray – their father passed away last night.
