Because so many of us climb ropes in our post-school lives. Why not give fitness tests on practical tasks like lugging groceries or getting Christmas decorations out of the attic?
I was amazed the first time I was able to climb the rope. For years I thought it was impossible. Then my brother got a chin-up bar, and I was able to practice chin-ups at home, which must have built up my arm strength. But there’s no way I could have climbed the rope if I hadn’t exercised outside of gym class.
What would be better is to forget about all trophies and just let the kids play for the fun of playing – like they used to in the old days before adults screwed it up with tournaments and champoinships.

Standards seem to have changed a bit since I was at school.

Well as long as the instructor doesn’t let go because then he might be the first to fall down.

Ha. Isn’t this a true commentary on the kids of today.
