I always enjoy the two panel version of the daily strip. It allows Mr. Staton to stretch out a bit, as in today’s wonderful look up the isle to the stage of the Lyric Theatre. Mysta in the lab, pointing at Sail, the hit man at the fence on Wheaton’s farm and the Space Coupe coming in for a landing (Ye Gods!), are all excellent two-panel strips that leap to mind.Vitamin’s interest in Captain Video is understandable, issues of vanity notwithstanding. Reels upon reels of archival footage—some of which could now fetch a pretty penny—were dumped into the river out of short-sighted expedience. Value appreciated after the fact and in relation to scarcity. Meanwhile, the crossover guest, Mary Perkins, who wisely suggests to Vitamin that he speak with Tracy about deal, finds her own value enhanced with time. The 12th volume of Leonard Starr’s Mary Perkins will be published next week. Comic pages shrank, as did newspaper circulation, yet bound volumes of Dick Tracy, Terry and the Pirates, Little Orphan Annie, Gasoline Alley and many more remind us that quality can endure, provided there is a market for it. The Origins of the Sunday Comics, found right here on gocomics, is up to 1902 and the great George Herriman. Meanwhile, Team Tracy reminds us of the Gish sisters, while making us curious about Mars. Well done.
Intro (skip if you’ve already read any of the previous intros):
Hello, greetings, casual readers of past Tracy stories. I’m here because I’m on 2 missions. The first is something I’ve never done before, read each Tracy story by Mike Curtis (or his occasional guest writer) in one sitting each. I feel his stories are worth it. IMHO, Curtis is by far the best post-Gould writer this strip has ever had, and we’re all lucky to have him.
My second mission is to provide an immediately useful Featured Comment whenever needed. My 3 friends below will reply to me. You can read their replies if you like, but their only real purpose is to bump up this comment to the Featured Comment.
There are 2 basic types of immediately useful Featured Comments: the first type is to provide you with a Mumblespeak translator when needed. The other type (this type) is anytime that day’s strip quotes a real song. I will provide an html to a recording to that song so you’ll know the tune even if you’ve never heard it before.
