Mom: Next time, can we read something that inspires me to eat low carbs? Heart: Sorry, mom, but you just can't read "Charlie and the chocolate factory" without breaking out the peanut butter cups and kisses.
Incredible how quickly the hoards descend on the supermarket candy aisle the day after Valentine’s and strip it bare…. making room for the Easter candy.
I’ve seen both versions of the movie. The original whimsical one with Gene Wilder (1971) and the dark one with Johnny Depp (2005). Which one did you like?
The newer version is much closer to the book (the dad is still around, unemployed from the toothpaste factory; you see the deformed kids again at the end and there is no confusing Mr. Wilkenson/fake Slugworth plot). The 1971 movie is the first movie I ever saw at an indoor theater, but we must have gone to the reissue a few years later. The family went shopping for Willie Wonka candy to sneak into the theater.

Well, the new one has Johnny Depp, so no contest.
