when we asked for more gene we didn’t expect it to be so “heavy”

No matter what JJ does, he could never turn A&J into the treacly spectacle that FBOFW was in its last few years.

We need someone to patch up a dysfunctional family. Calling Mary Worth!

JJ celebrates love that lasts thru the years, new love and fatherhood. He can draw for me for as long as he wants.

Wow, never heard these relatives mentioned. Makes me glad I am an only child.

One wonders about the motivations of one who detests a comic but reads it every day. As for me, JJ seems to be looking over my shoulder as he writes. A&J has always been a cut above the others, reflective and witty. Not at all like FBOFW, which lost its sense of humor long ago. Today’s A&J advances character development – a little insight into the back-story of Gus, who is routinely as funny as Arlo.

I like Arlo and Janis because it is laughing at real life. Not made up patter and schmaltz. But I know what you mean. I do not like Doonesbury but I read him everyday. Habits I guess.

If you don’t mind, I need to use this as my catch-all comeback.

The problem with FBOFW was that her husband walked out on her after umpteen years of marriage. It’s hard to be funny when your life is collapsing around you.

Funny how people who say “It’s not all about YOU” tend to think it’s all about THEM. :P Starting to see why his other daughter hasn’t talked to him in 7 years!

George, you must be a very unhappy individual to spew such tripe.

I have a son who has not spoken tome in 8 onths and have a 4 month old grandson I have not met. All because he wants me to cut my hair and shave.

@Burnout70s- that’s really sad. Hope the situation resolves itself.

Thank you JJ for a great twist on the storyline. Gus has always been an interesting (mysterious) character and we now get to see him grow. This has always been my favorite strip because I love the characters!

JJ rocks. @GeorgeAlexander doesn’t.

Yeah, gotta agree with this one. Arlo and Janis seem almost too much like my own life. Life can be cruel, but you keep on being a family.

Ah, yes – one of those moments when you realize you have grown up and become an adult, and from here on, if it doesn’t work, it’s YOUR fault.
