So science fairs don't even allow volcanoes anymore? Nope. After they became a sitcom cliche, they had to be banned. See? One year in the early 1990s there were science fairs posed entirely of volcanoes... But only half the students knew real lava wasn't composed of vinegar and baking soda.

Just to clarify, here… In my kids’ schools- they really DO ban volcanos as science fair projects. No joke.

The 1964 edition of World Book Encyclopedia had instructions for simulating a hurricane in a box as a science project.

I think in 1964, they still believed that hurricanes were caused by noxious etheric vapours, and that plate tectonics was a crazy idea by a weatherman, didn’t’ they?
