I have mixed feelings about this. While this will decrease inter-motorist rage incidents, it may increase motorist-utility pole rage incidents that will drive up the cost of insurance.
Sigh…. People, looking up from their cell phone means THEY ARE TEXTING…. Talking on the phone is nothing these days, it’s the morons driving down the road looking into their lap. I think the idea is brilliant.
This is a great idea, and it would save me the trouble of having to honk. (Just yesterday, I was behind a guy that paid absolutely no attention to the light until I honked.)
Ironic I had this happen to me this morning, on my way to work…left turn lane, yield on green, massive openings car in front wouldn’t even inch over the line or move. I thought maybe they don’t know they can turn on a green when its clear?
Nope, turns out they were looking down at something and hadn’t noticed the light turned, after missing at least a dozen opportunities they immeidatley hurry and turned left right as it changed, to ensure only they could go and no one else could turn. Guess they don’t want all the people mad at them and following them.
It is illegal to text in my state while behind the wheel, stop light or not. The only exemption is if you are pulled off to the side of the road, then you can legally text while behind the wheel (or on private property) if your in a travel lane, moving or not you cannot legally do it.
No wonder road rage is getting so common, I’m not one to get upset, I didn’t even honk at them to get going but I sure was upset over this because it made me late to work. This is a 5 minute light with only a 30 second chance to turn every 5 minutes.
I don’t text but I do use the sync system built by ford for hand’s free phone calls and it is the best thing ever far as I am concerned. Phone calls while driving are legal, just texting is not.

Who’s idea was that: town hall’s? I would also hate to know how loud the horn will be.

Where I live they make a chirping sound so blind pedestrians know that the light changed.

It should emit a sound that interrupts cell phone transmissions.

I didn’t think anything could get a cell phone talking driver to pay attention…

Since when do drivers wait to stop before using their phones?

Boy, just like the old days; the second the light changed, the horns started blaring.

A police office friend of mine says it’s easy to identify the texters. They’re normally looking down and smiling at their crotches.

Actually not a bad idea at all….Maybe stop signs should yell as folks get to within about 30 feet.
