Jeff: Good to meet you, sailor... Man: Actually, we've already met, bro! You know that firefight in chapter 9, where you and a wounded SEAL hold off over 100 insurgents for a week? Jeff: Yeah? Man: Well, that was me! I was that wounded SEAL! Jeff: Dude, I made it all up. Man: Oh... are you sure? It seemed so real!

If we are going to do repeats, at least this is a good one. It reminds us how some get lost in their fantasies. It doesn’t point out a way out, but then nobody seems to have that good a handle on the matter. Nor is it always related to injuries. I am reminded how James Garfield was killed by a man who had worked to get him elected and thought Garfield knew he owed him a debt for his support. (Well, actually, physicians killed Garfield through incompetence, but the shot started the whole thing.).All of you know someone here you are convinced is not in touch with reality. Possibly you are right. Possibly you are the one. Possibly both.(reality’s over rated anyway)

The psychology of people like rpmurray fascinates me. Every day he (she?) visits this forum to drop a snarky comment about how Garry Trudeau should eviscerate the Obama administration (post haste!) then disappears-never bothering to respond to any of the comments generated by the original post. This cycle is repeated so often, it is starting to remind me of another Murray (Bill) in the film Groundhog Day. Every morning rpmurray must hop out of bed and log on to GoComics, only to be frustrated that somehow, the creator of this strip has once again failed to disparage the POTUS. I can almost hear the strains of “I Got You Babe” playing in the background.

Several media outlets seem to be reporting that it is GT himself, rather than another member of the family, who is ill. In any case, whether it is Garry, Jane or one of the kids, get better immediately!

Garry Trudeau has never been a straight news journalist. If you are looking for that, there are plenty of outlets.

“Incompetence brought on by using new technology to find the bullet. Damn those metal springs!”-Fingers were “new technology” at the time????………………………………….From
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/how-doctors-killed-president-garfield/
“The shot in the back was not fatal, not hitting any vital organs. The bullet lodged behind the pancreas.
" “If they had just left him alone he almost certainly would have survived,” Millard said.
“Within minutes, doctors converged on the fallen president, using their fingers to poke and prod his open wounds.
" “Twelve different doctors inserted unsterilized fingers and instruments in Garfield’s back probing for this bullet,” Millard recounted, “and the first examination took place on the train station floor. I mean, you can’t imagine a more germ-infested environment.” "…………………………………If you’re going to make things up, make up good whoppers.

Trudeau’s mother passed away. The obituary was in the paper. May she rest in peace.

Guess Trudeau has never met or talked with a young vet who has suffered traumatic brain injury in battle. “Making up” a battle story may not be intentionally insulting someone like that, especially in a comic strip, but for a cartoonist who has shown in past strips empathy for service members, today’s strip is a senseless and hurtful piece of work.
