The Born Loser by Art and Chip Sansom for February 16, 2014
Transcript:
The Born Loser by Art & Chip Sansom MILK OATEY OH'S Brutus: Well, you're up bright and early! Wilberforce: Morning, Pop! Brutus: What do you have planned for today? Wilberforce: I guess I'll play video games. Brutus: What, and waste this beautiful day? You should be outside in the fresh air, getting some exercise! Be productive! Challenge yourself! Brutus: I live by the inspirational words of Jack London: "I would rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow... Brutus: "Than a sleepy and permanent planet. The function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days trying to prolong them. I shall use my time." Wilberforce: You're right, Pop! I'm gonna get all the kids from the street and organize some winter Olympics-type competitions! Brutus: Bully for you! Don't make too much noise, though - I'm going to go back to bed for a little nap!

And 150 years ago, if I child said, “I’m going to go outside today to play and get some exercise and breath the fresh air”, their parent would chide them for their idle and lazy ways, when there are chores to be done and a winter season for which to prepare.
