Caulfield: Valentine's Day is on a Friday this year. I wonder if that means a boon for nice restaurants... Or if the holiday gets buried because valentiny people go out on Fridays anyway. Mr. Burke: Those aren't the same mixed feelings most people have about Valentine's Day. Caulfield: Most people's hormones have probably kicked in.

I would never pay the sky high dinner prices restaurants gouge everyone for on Valentine’s Day dinners. Never! But lunch is nice, and the same price as always. And I am a girl, btw.

Guilty about what? I never feel guilty about V day. It’s a manufactured holiday by marketers to cover a lull between big shopping days/holidays. Quite simply, it’s a money grab by some companies and I’m supposed to feel guilty about that? I have bigger things to worry about. And if you think one day out of the year will make things all good for the rest of the year with someone else, you have bigger things to worry about, too.

Boon, definitely. Bleeds over into Thursday and Saturday, as well.

It doesn’t cost anything to tell someone you love them and appreciate them tolerating your quirks, and a traditional homemade valentine is pretty special even if its just marker on corrugated cardboard.

no, no. You all have it wrong. It is a day to anonymously send small nice things to people to give them some inner…er…happiness.

Had a date planned for Valentine’s Day with hubby. He was going to take tomorrow off. “Free” Fridays at zoo (donation of food items for local pantry). He made arrangements for us to borrow a wheelchair for me. After the zoo, the art museum. Now he’ll have to go into work for the next 3 days to catch up. I don’t mind so much. He actually thought to plan something – and that’s so rare, I’ll treasure the thought!
