Norman: Friday is Valentine's day, dad! Don't forget to buy a card for mom! Ralph: I never forget! Norman: No, you always remember at the last minute when all the Valentine's cards are picked-over! Ralph: Did she notice it was a "get well" card last year?

I remember a funny scene in a sitcom some years ago where a man forgot Valentine’s day until late the night before. He goes out to try and find something, but everywhere he goes, there are crowds of men desperately begging clerks for anything remotely Valentine-like.

On some show recently, someone said that he and his gal went to the store and browsed for cards to give each other, read them and left – I LOVE the idea! I prefer a thrifty man myself. I used to bake heart-shape cookies.
We’ll be too busy to celebrate on the day this year because he’s in a play. We’ll just do what we always do (except my diet is changing – end of a full year as vegetarian) and I’ll have a couple of cocktails too (after a year).

I prefer not to get cards because I don’t want to throw them away but you run out of places to put them. I’d rather get a thoughtful gift or a night out.
