You know, I’ve come to feel sorry for God…There he was all alone in the Universe….He must have been so lonely…Imagine being the only thing anywhere?…How lonely do you have to be to make us? I bet we are pretty entertaining, though….The twentieth century was hilarious..But, anyway, how did God end up just sittin’ around being lonely in the first place?..
- He barred Himself from directing by giving man free will.-A fairly profound thought, except that, even with free will, we are still limited by what our natures allow. Which may be why we are good at destroying and not so good at rehabilitating…
N.G. — you’ve got it wrong side up. If your car stops running because you put no fuel in, that’s not a punishment to you. It’s cause and effect of the way the car is made. And yeah, you can say there are “rules”, which is why there is matter. As torture, no, you’ve got that wrong, too. But that’s another discussion.
Which is as helpful as having babies raise babies and as edifying as studying your own navel. Those quotes may be from “Christian” philosophers, but they are most surely not from Christ. I’ll take his word.
The first reality show……beats out “Survivor” unlike the TV version NO ONE gets out alive…..so enjoy it while you can….but I can’t help thinking…next season…..during sweeps week could they throw in a cure for cancer and Diabetes….just to screw with the Nelson Ratings?
-By “free will” you mean the freedom of a rat in a maze-This is too limited a view of a very complex situation…the fact that some of us are able to invent things that have never existed before shows that more choices exist than the majority of us can intuit…
I agree that what we call rules or laws of Nature are, as you say, the basic parameters of function (I assume you’re talking about the laws of physics, for instance??) I can see no exceptions, just a “law” we hadn’t seen before (“law” as in “law of gravity” etc.) Not sure what my analogy had to do with free will; it was simply intended to highlight the difference between punishment and cause-and-effect. But as to there being no intelligence behind them, surely you know how many excellent minds (among which I surely do not count myself) who disagree with you, as do I, and state that the elegance of operation of the universe is unequivocal testimony to an Intelligence? If I understand your use of the word mythos, I do look at reality through the Christian “mythos”, while understanding its place in today’s world.

you did. It’s just the actors aren’t taking direction all that well (if at all).

So many world ending catastrophies to choose from… No wonder we’re still here; God can’t decide which would be most ironic or hillarious.

Well, there are some catchy lines, but the plot as a whole is just unbelievable. Some scriptwriters with a better grip on reality are needed.
