Alice knows her big brother all too well.I may have met Dill’s brother (one of them, as he has more than one brother) in the parking lot of either of two groceries last Sunday….
I have all kinds of respect for carherds and similar employees. Where would we be without them? There is no such thing as a bad job – they all have their worth.
When I worked in a grocery store, the baggers use to be sent outside to gather the carts. We had a McDonalds near by and some of them would sneak over for burgers.
I worked to American Greetings., wrestled big boxes of cards, restocked shelves, ordered new merch, repriced merch. sent back overages, and traveled all over the county to 12 stores, AND dealt with a dumb, idiot of a manager who would quietly stand at the end of the aisle and “watch” you. I asked him more than once to announce his presence. Finally, fed up with him, I applied to a manager’s position and really enjoyed it. It is all in the management. The worst was the store managers who thought they were the king of their universe.
I worked my way through university as a stockboy in the menswear department. Receiving, restocking, rearranging… and endlessly rebagging the t-shirts and briefs because the customers wouldn’t believe the extra large blue was the same size as the extra large green. (and never buy the one they’d opened!)
When I worked I was called cart guy. They didn’t have a good name for the job. I did many things besides just getting carts. Change, bags, clean up for cashiers.

Is this the same brother of Dill’s who makes bogus catapults and what-nots?

I was a bag-boy/cartherd. I was also the guy who took care of the “cleanup on aisle 6”.
