    There’s the dictionary, then there’s everyday speech. In my part of the Southwest, the word is “hito”.

    “Mijo” is usually the way “mi hijo” (my son) is pronounced in everyday speech. Remember that the “h” is silent in Spanish and the two "i"’s run together to create “mijo”.
