B.D.: I can't believe it! I'm lost! My first week in Vietnam, and I'm already missing in action! ...I'll probably starve... or get eaten even! However!! ...Even if I'm destined to die in this cursed jungle, I still believe this war is right, honorable, and a credit to America! VietCong: Vely nice. How do you feel about the POW issue?

Played ‘advisor’ ‘59 to ’61… fun days.. never knew what fun we’d have in future. Wish it never WAS, nor had been. I’m old and (allegedly) regained my senses. Foreign Adventurism ain’t for me no more. At least I don’t have to depend on the VA to ‘fix me’..I’ll let the young troops have my seat.

That was a really long jump- we missed all the rest of BD’s college career, enlistment and training.

So…1977, High school math class had too many boys named John. So I volunteered to be known as Phred. I have not thought of that since then. Nice to see my namesake back and in color, too.

BTW: My first cockatiel was named: Phred. I also knew when in ’Nam a number of friendly “Phreds”, who I liked a lot better than the Saigon stooges. The “Yards”, were also great, and mostly just wanted BOTH sides to just leave them alone.

These strips seem like yesterday. So far, I’ve recalled every one of them. CT had his finger on the pulse of our generation like nobody else, and still does. Perhaps nobody else, anywhere, ever, has chronicled the life of a generation like he has. It is a unique achievement. Congrats, GT.
