@Al: As far as I can tell, the Quadlings weren’t short, either. And I seem to remember that in later books, Baum made the Munchkins regular human sized as well, but I could be remembering wrong.
I rode a ride at the age of 5 when we lived in Oklahoma. It was called the Wild Mouse. This was before they had height limits. I was by myself on the ride. I was thrown from one side of the car to the other. It took all my strength not to be thrown out of the car.

I didn’t know everyone was short in Australia.
I’d have thought all that hanging upside down off the bottom of the Earth would make them grow taller…. but what do I know.
