Think this is a first for the “Dick Tracy”. Don’t believe “Sawdust” or “the Invisible Tribe” actually had a whole strip dedicated to them without some appearance by Tracy or one of the other regulars at least holding the newspaper.
I’ll admit that the Wikipedia example does show L’il Abner holding a page before it launches into the parody full frame, but there’s not really room for an extra intro frame in current daily strips.
I preferred Fearless Fosdic before copyright threats from Tribune Syndicate forced Capp to have him give up his yellow snap-brim fedora in favor of the less Tracy-like bowler seen in the samples posted here (above).
……………………………………………………………Vera Alldid’s parody is very close to home. Tracy really should have a better sense of humor about it!
LOL! I like this guy better than Tracy! Maybe he’ll complete a storyline. Like, Hmmm, I wonder whatever happened to the Nitrates and Lena the Hyena? Did the police eventually rescue them from the bottom of the lake and arrest them for murder and fraud? And hmmm, I wonder if Dr. Sail, Dr. Ghote and that other guy ever figure out how to to the space craft around and return to earth or did they fly into the sun?
I also wonder how is this leading up to the next caper? Will Tracy sue this guy for defamation of character? And what are Mrs. Flattop, Mumbles, B.B. Eyes, DoubleUp and the BlackHearts up to?
wishful thinking gweedo…..unless sprocket packed an aqualung in the trunk according to the others on this board theyre dead… tho i would love to see them haul a waterlogged car out of the drink.
funny how some posters here have accepted the nitrate’s fate without a second thought, yet some of them were ones who clamored for difinitive resolutions earlier when the new team kicked in.
Gee whiz Mike ‘n Joe’s names are at the bottom of the last panel: ’n I thought Vera Alldid “dood” that strip!! Oh shuckie-darns!! Ya had me there fer a minnit, fellers!! Hyuk! Yuk! Nyuk!!
Interesting villain rundown in panel 2. Lowbrow? Highbrow was a bad apple in the Kerry Drake strip, which was an attempt to follow Tracy’s popularity some 12 years to the day after Tracy’s debut. Looks like the current team is going the Al Capp Fearless Fosdick route. This could get intriguing.
Yesterday, Tracy’s co-workers and friends expressed concern about showing the new strip to Tracy. They felt concern for how he would react. But, they seem to be fair game for Vera Aldid as well. Today’s strip certainly has a parody of Chief Patton.
It’s truly amazing how some people just can’t keep their promise to ignore those they don’t get along with. Toss a little chum Zzzzzz’s in Lake Tracy and they pounce on you like a school of piranhas! What would happen if I put in the water a couple of SIGHS? LOL!!!!
I would think that Tracy would be able to laugh at himself. After all, he has encountered some bizarre foes. And since he is supposed to be a public figure I am sure he has faced something like that before.
This is from December 2, 2011:It is possible Vera Alldid’s reason for starting this strip contains ulterior motives that are more sinister than appears on the surface.
“Patience, Grasshopper!” I’m sure we’ll see a resolution to the Nitrates in due course. (Mike says we will.) We left them in a bit of a cliffhanger situation, but in the meantime, I like this developing story. Even if it seems like an “interlude” it is no doubt connected to something upcoming. Even the TV interview and the meetup up with “Popeye” came up in later stories.
I’m surprised that nobody mentioned the Warner Brothers Cartoon with Daffy Duck as Duck Twacy.. I remember two villians. One was Neon Noodle who ended up as a neon light by Daffy. Another one was Eraser Head who tried to rub out Duck with no luck. But, it was only a dream.
Ray Toler: Surprised to see you remarking about unfinished story lines!.Jonathan K: Thanks for the reminder that Vera Aldid is probably up to no good. I was hoping otherwise..And to whom it may concern, a Dick Locher signature on April Fool’s Day seems more than appropriate!
I’ll wager that it was no coincidence. I always enjoy these ‘cameo’ characters who are recast in whatever comic they happen to appear. In Annie, there was one who was a dead ringer for Peter Lorre; I can’t remember the name now, but he was a thoroughly nasty character who met an appropriately gruesome end.

Except for the artwork, it’s not that different from the standard Tracy Storyline.
