Indeed. The one time I was called up, I was excused on the three interviews by one side or the other exactly because I was “too eager” to server on a jury.
In Texas, potential reasons for being excused from jury duty include the option “I am not of sound mind or good moral character.” Never had the guts to try checking that box…
I was a college student the last time I was contacted about jury duty, and so I was excused as serving on the jury would have interfered with my ability to attend class.
Last month I messed up my calendar and missed my jury call. In a panic I phoned the county office. The lady nicely asked my name and my panel number, then said that nobody was selected from that group, so my duty was discharged and I don’t have to worry for another three years. Whew! But I’m still open to state and federal jury summons. (I’ve been summonsed maybe 8 times in my life and was only empaneled once. Then the judge made an incorrect statement about the case, “tainted” the jury, and we were dismissed. My civic duty. All for $9 a day.)

The strange thing about jury duty is the people in charge of it make it seem that you did something wrong by showing up for it !

The only time I was called, there was a choice to be excused if I was over 65. I was. I checked it.

I am an attorney and have been called twice. Suppose the “moral character” thing is the reason I was not selected for a jury.
