Mondays, Garfield. You also hate Mondays. I now wake up to two alarm clocks: the one on my phone and a regular one (both to go off five minutes apart from each other).

I used to have my clock radio set to wake me up until oneday the song that came on just a second after the set timewas a song by Dobie Gray that starts, “I GOTCHA, YOUTHOUGHT I DIDN’T SEE YA NOW, DIDN’T YA”! Now Ihave an alarm clock that I can choose from 6 differentmelodies! Much better!!!

When my kids were toddlers/babies, I woke up to them, of course. Then I staggered to computer and switched it on, and it started automatically play on repeat an optimistic song about a new day. When I was awake enough, I switched it off. How did I know I was awake enough? The song started to get on my nerves…

I used to use a calculator with an alarm that could be programmed with melodies, and can say that at 6:45 am, even Brahms’s Lullaby is jarring.

OK—am I the only one who actually wants to hear the joke about the cat and the lawn mower?

I searched for some online, but none were … um … suitable for a family site like this.

Actually, here is the one about the cat and the lawnmower. It’s Garfield from October 2, 1978:
