this is actually a very good history lesson to all the young’ins around here who don’t get civics classes in school anymore

Ah, remember when we were actually shocked by secret bombing campaigns?

When I was in college, I was on a computer system called PLATO, or, as I like to call it, the Internet Fred Flintstone would’ve used. It connected college campuses, military bases, and some other places around the world. It was based on the University of Illinois campus in Champaign-Urbana.

There was one person on it who, every year on May 4th, would post a remembrance of the Kent State shootings. Although this was near the end of the decade, he still used it to rag on the Nixon administration. And we’d get responses on both sides of the issues. These were on a “lesson” (that’s what they were called — PLATO stood for Programmed Learning And Teaching Operation) called “IPR” for “InterPersonal Relationships.” This was a lesson where language was NOT monitored. Some things came close to what would now be called trolling. But most people kept things fairly civil.

Just wanted to share. And see if any former PLATO people are reading this.

Lots of folks are finding it fun to reflect on the songs from this era. I can’t remember seeing a Capital Hill drawing before.

They’re talking about Ayers right? A few Government officials who still think bombing was a way to resolve social issues, who said in a recent interview he not only didn’t regret participating in the bombings, he thinks they probably should have done more of them.

I seriously doubt you could get Mac to say the same.

We were in Cambodia a long time before the Nixon bombings, which I found amusing at the time because folks thought Nixon was supposed to end the war, not expand it.

Another slight aside, stabbing Laos in the back was part of the “resolution” of the Cuban missile “crisis”…

You wonder why it was not reasonable to use bombings to effect social change in the USA?.It was not reasonable because the intent was for the minority to force the majority to obey them. Tyrannies are bad because tyrants are bad..Now regarding bombing those delivering devices for killing Americans, I can see why you would oppose it if you think we deserved to die. We should not have been in Vietnam, but we were. We could hate our military for being faithful to their duty and going where the civilian authorities directed, but that attitude leads to unelected tyrants using killing power as desired. Not good..You can claim attacks on those delivering weapons to kill us weakened the government which either allowed those shipments or was already too weak to stop those shipments..To me, the only problem lay in withholding that information from the people in charge. Protecting Americans was their duty.

Perhaps, but your claim our actions allowed Pol pot’s ascencion to power is a constantly repeated theme as is your rejection of the needs of our soldiers.
