I was laid off the last Friday in May of 02. The following Monday I went to apply for unemployment, but before I left I told my oldest son to mow the lawn. When I returned, he was at it, but just as I got out of my car the mower started making horrible noises and blew up. The poor thing had a hole through the crankcase, so I went and found a good used mower (self-propelled, for the kids ya know). I just set the old one off to the side of the garage, where it stayed for a couple years. One day a neighbor asked if I wanted to get rid of it, as he would take it off my hands if I did. I pointed out that not only did the block have a hole in it, but that the deck had some holes rusted through. He said he didn’t care, he’d still like to have it. I sometimes wonder what he did with it. I guess the wheels and the blade were still in good shape.
