Looks like a complete flop to me.

A flip-flop.

I never could climb a rope or a pole, either, CB. I remember “The President’s Fitness Test”—which I totally failed. Nothing like failing right out loud in front of the whole class. Guess that’s where I got my dislike of anything like strenuous physical activity. If you have to run to get there, I’m not going.

Nope, it would have been better to just hang around.

Isn’t anyone going to comment on the red CB, how Schulz would never have done that?

What animator Bill Melendez would or wouldn’t have done in an animated TV special is irrelevant to the daily black & white strip. Mr. Schulz would NOT have used a “bold, blocky” (or, in this case, tacky) color scheme. Not on the Sunday color strip, and not if the dailies were in color. Regulars here know how I feel about this ridiculous colorization.

Climb-up!

This was a delited scene in the storyboard for “It Was a Short Summer, Charlie Brown”.

He’s probably trying to prove himself to himself.

OK, CB, now just say…..“Top that!”

Hang in there, Charlie Brown.

Too bad there isn’t a “good team manager” contest. I always thought Charlie Brown had a good chance of winning one of them, at least.

Les from “Funky Winkerbean” never could climb the rope in gym class (or he would get stuck partway up). Probably influenced by Charlie Brown!

Not that climbing a rope is easy; it’s not! However, as many of you know, with proper use of the feet, almost anyone can do it. Of course, the distance you can climb is quite dependent upon your strength and agility.Did it when younger; will never do it now…

Did anyone, who was not actually an athlete, ever climb one of those frelling gym ropes?

Surely, Charlie Brown, you HAD to know this one would end in disaster!

Can’t Say Charlie Brown doesn’t try hard. I gave up a lot.

With a good pair of scissors, some paste, and a large collection of strips, it’s possible to write your own. Try it! (And don’t forget to apply lurid colors liberally in the third frame)
