I surprised that Cliff knew that, but he is an engineer, after all.

I just upgraded from an 11 OZ to a 15 OZ with a remarkable increase in audio quality. Though I admit I am using a triple wound waxed string to attach the cans. Hold on - I’ve got a call from Dennis Mitchell -gotta go….

It isn’t that Cliff knows it. The cell phone technology that’s taken over his brain knows it, and was using his mouth to say it.

Marg, engineers know just about everything that’s worth knowing. Take my word for it. We are very much like Cliff in other respects, also. The scary thing is: most of us are happy with that.

Wow… so wrong… 7.2 is HSPA (which is a combo of HSDPA and HSUPA - downlink and uplink). EDGE was about .5Mbps GSM is a VOICE standard!!! GPRS is the data overlay!!!! ahhh the days of circuit switched data…

WiMax is not even a contender!… just need to wait for LTE - they’re testing in the tens of megabits in the lab

aka Tim Rickard. I’m not a techie - I’m more like Pam. This cartoon was inspired by my own outburst when overwhelmed by techno babble in a conversation. (I had a friend who IS a techie write Cliff’s dialog for me.)

Heck, I’m still waiting for punch cards to make a comeback - anybody remember the IBM 5081s? That was actually the form number for those things. And, NO, those were not the good old days - THESE are the good old days.

    Good one as usual, Tim.

I put in the “gps” tag just to grant continuity in the tagged arc.

OK, technology wins…but what has it won?

Engineers knowing everything worth knowing? NOT. Great respect for technology, and even more for science, on this end, but I wouldn’t trade my additional gifts in the humanities and so much else for anything an engineer has.

It’s complicated enough, we need both – and more besides, working on all facets.

More to the point, “Don’t fight, children, play nice!”

As we all slowly fall behind…or lose interest in the unimportant details. (Important but not important for most of us to need to know.)
