As a follow-up to yesterday’s comments. I live in Japan and often see people eat green tea ice cream, and I fact, eat it myself. I think it is delicious. However, it is flavoured with a rather bitter green tea powder, not tea leaves.I would say the reason many Americans don’t enjoy tea is that they don’t know how to make it. When I lived in the U.S. I was usually served a tea bag and a cup of lukewarm water in restaurants. Of course the tea had no flavour. Even a tea bag can result in a decent cup of tea if you put the bag in the cup or pot first, add boiling water, and preferably cover the cup for a few minutes.Green tea, on the other hand, should not be made with boiling water. After boiling, the water should be allowed to cool a little so as not to destroy the more delicate flavour..I shall now climb down from my soap box.

I know that SleepyTime Herbal Tea is technically a tisane, but to me it has notes of freshly mown grass in both aroma and taste.

My mom used to fix buttered toast and weak Lipton tea for us when we were sick. To this day, I can’t drink hot Lipton tea.

And, by strange coincidence, green tea tastes like freshly mown grass, steeped in hot water.

I used to have a cup of tea with breakfast then another on my way to work. Now that I’m retired I make a pot of coffee. I miss my tea!
