I know Tracy’s supposed to be a great detective but why would he suspect an explosive device in the Stradivarius? I see Virgil Ohso is wearing a tie for the bombing!
Again I must admit
And to you I will submit
That I am no musician
But it is my suspicion
That in the second panel
We see a blooming cello
Do my little peepers deceive me
Look if you don’t believe me
But there are four strings
That become three of all things
Consistency again is not a must
It’s just another thing to be cussed
Tracy sees the plot right away
From his duty he will not sway
He will stand and talk and talk
As the hands race around the clock
Tune in for tomorrows thrilling episode
Maybe the violin will explode.
Why “assume” an explosive device (were you “aware” of a threat to anyone ?) Why not “action” that A.P.B. you put out on young Harmonic and quietly escort him outside (?) Remember, the “idea” to make the Police “look good” (?) Instead, you pause to “hand” weigh - a strange instrument (?)
And why are you illegally “interfering” on foriegn, soveriegn territory, and brusquely elbowing aside “Crosseyed” Tucker, who the Ambassador has instructed to - ”See to it” ?
You’re violating all the norms of diplomatic practice. And what’s going to happen when they discover you’ve smuggled a Firearm through their Security ?
I’m afraid our top detective has lost his “balance” - and this WILL BE further, visibly confirmed (in a “physical sense”) when Brozman tries to depict him in a ”running” position next week
Tracy’s familiarity with violins is impressive. He even replaced the missing string – and considering the hands he has to work with, that must have been difficult.
…an explosive device!
< or >
…an artichoke!
…the body of a dead parrot!
…a ziplock bag full of tapioca pudding!
…an infinitesimally small piece of a collapsed supernova!
Radish, There will be some surprises in the Sunday re-cap and some have to do with “Low Note”. Check his forehead in Sunday’s last panel.
Seems Obama has suggested (source Glen Beck) that Parents and Grandparets should take “advice” from young kids. When we weigh the “quality” that appears in the strip we have to “ponder” on whether Locher is doing just that, and his grandchildren have been “ghosting” the scripts for him (?)
I wouldn’t call it nepotism, that’s over the top. But after all, it wasn’t too long ago that he would make his son John draw the strip and then put his “own” name to it. We know how “close” he is with “family” and today’s “Bib Dicky” quality - masquarding as Dick Tracy with “contradictions,” plus that sort of “home alone” rapport … you just never know what may have been happening (?)
What’s wrong with giving the kids some practice and a “kick-start” into writing comic strips (?) Who gives a hoot (?) As long as TMS seems to be “comfortable” with the way things are going and the Locher “name” remains on the strip ?
I don’t know, but all’s not right, and I’ll tell you “quality” (or lack of it) sure does point an accusing finger.
Hey - hang on a sec, Locher! In the middle panel, you put a “foot” on the resonance chamber much like that of a cello. The Maestro holds it under his chin, not standing it up and plucking the strings. The foot peg keeps it off the floor. (Stomp, stomp) Go out to your nearest honkey tonk and see for yourself.
I’ve owned a violin. They don’t weigh much, and the addition of the hardware needed to make it able to kill the ambassador from a distance— I presume the violinist isn’t playing right next to the ambassador– would be noticed at once. That, and the fact that the instrument would hardly be playable at all because the body of the instrument has been altered so severely.
Tracy may be guessing about a bomb, but he’s not guessing about something being wrong with this instrument. Even Inspector Clouseau could figure that out. It is interesting, all the same. This is the first time in quite a while that Tracy has detected ANYTHING before bad stuff starts happening around him.
Hmmm….for no logical reason, Virgil is being driven/driving somewhere. To the embassy, maybe? Where he will arrive just in time to catch the bomb as Tracy tosses it out a window?
All Tracy knows is that the son took the Strad; he doesn’t know anything about Ohso yet. So why would Tracy come to the conclusion that the son put a bomb in the Strad and kill his father, especially when he’s right there in the same room with him.

Whole story basically resolved in one strip…
I think the whole thing could have been done in sufficient detail in one strip.

Leakysqueaky and VistaBill–does that seat perchance have a hole in the middle?

Panel 2 should have had the strad back-side up to see the 17th century screws that were manipulated. LOL

Hah! Only the Dick Tracy comic strip has a hole in the middle. It’s the donut hole.
