I remember trying that as a kid. I think we got about three feet down before we gave up. We were in “the field” near our neighborhood, so no one’s yard got ruined.
Actually if they dug straight down through the middle of the earth they would end up at 43.54 degrees south Latitude 79.54 east Longitude. Or somewhere in the middle of the Indian Ocean near French Southern & Antarctic Lands.
Paul M Marion: For me, it would be the eastern tip of the Amsterdam-Naturaliste sea mount. I had a geology professor who said, “If you dig deep enough, you will find water.” He didn’t appreciate my saying, “yeah, the Indian Ocean.”
Back when they were drilling the Mohole, I predicted that, if “successful”, they would bring in a volcano looking like a red version of an oilfield gusher.
I saw a map of the world inverted, ie who is opposite who.The only significant land areas opposite each other were a large part of China and a large part of Argentina.

The framing of the panels makes it look like Michael is naked. Anybody else see that?
Not that I make it a point to look at naked boys or anything!

It’s better than having her try to walk around the world because somebody told her it was round. At least she’s staying in one place.
