I’ve got a feeling that Earl and Mr. Snake are not the best of friends….and in fact..if I were Mr. Snake, seeing the expression on Earl’s grumpy face, I’d be shaking in my boots.
I also loved Lambchop…her eyelashes and her voice, especially.
I’d always loved puppets and marionettes… They were very big on TV when I was a kid…. (I mean, you know, right after cave paintings and dinosaur rides)Some of my earliest TV memories are of Kukla Fran and Ollie, hen Farfel, Beany and Cecil…. and of course Howdy Doody… where I adored Flub-a-Dub.
And I still … I admit… love Grover…especially on the early shows before they decided he should speak correct English.
And Twinkly…..I remember that second comicyou posted very well….
Verna and her supreme annoyance at Arthur and his puppets…in fact, at the time, I imagined her daydream about what ought to happen to the three of them….
I’m thinking Earl probably feels the same about Connie and Mr. Snake.
Like Susan, I enjoyed the puppets on TV as a kid (and I made my own with paper mache heads, some even with hands too). In continuation of the theme of DS, sewing a simple body and sewing it TO the head is a good project for children of any persuasion to learn another skill set.
I only made the hand type of puppet – forming papier mache over my own clay sculpture. More recently I used a fur one that my parents brought home from a trip (rather abused by my kids when they were younger- so whiskers are all broken). I know it would make some upset so I probably should not have mentioned (but you know me).
I’ve just had this weird idea about a stage musical based on comic strips and the comments that might arise from them..It would be s singy-dancy thing with comic strips projected on a screen, a few chance remarks which lead to a song (& dance). I suggest Stel Bel as art director and Number Six as designer..Any further thoughts?
Square dancing went only so-so this week because we skipped a week. I get confused when there are men in my square who also don’t know what to do (like my corner various times tonight). I’d like to just ignore what others do and continue going the right steps, but there are new ones that I’m not that comfortable with either. I’m glad my partner is patient with me.

Um…How exactly would that puppet improve Earl’s mood?
Don’t people on Ballard Street have a history of problems when it comes to hand puppets? ll

Sometimes a puppet is just needed to diffuse a situation.
