Mount Rushmore is named after Charles Rushmore, a lawyer who visited the unnamed rock in 1885 and was jokingly told by a guide that it could be named after him, and the name stuck! Pinball was banned in New York until 1976. In the 1600s, midwives brewed Groaning Ale, and extra strong beer fermented for nine months that was designed to ease the pain of childbirth.

Pinball was banned by Fiorello LaGuardia in the early 1940s. He felt that the games robbed innocent school children of their spare change.

I remember not being able to play as a child in that area. That would have been mid 60’s.But later, same area, it really didn’t matter much.I think by then, that was just one of those laws nobody really cared much about any more. Still on the books, but nobody cares.LOTS of those around.Used to be in Alabama, you could buy a Playboy magazine, but not a Bible on Sunday. That’s a law that was on the books (if not still), but hardly enforced since at least the 80’s.(yeah, they took a long time to come around on those “Blue Laws”.(the reason was you couldn’t buy hard cover books on Sunday, but magazines were OK)

I wonder if Gutzor Borglum, who carved the Mt. Rushmore heads, cared about what name should be given to his sculpture?
