When I was a kid, I liked going to the back to school sales. Most of our time was in the school supplies section, not clothing.

Same here. But the signs say “… when children are present.” In some parts of the country, the signs have lights that flash when kids are coming to school, leaving school, or are at lunch and allowed to leave the school grounds.

I think shopkeepers enjoy those signs. Otherwise why not put “Stationery sale” or “School clothing sale”, which children wouldn’t even notice? It’s a cruel tradition.
