Arlo: I love it when the Fourth falls on a Friday!
Arlo: We get a long weekend out of it!
Janis: It fell on Thursday last year, and we got both it AND Friday off!
Janis: Janis, you are SO bad!
not only do we not get the 4th off at my company, we do not get holiday pay either,Corporate greed at it’s finest.$1 billion in assets and $1 billion in revenue this year projected, our CEO made $100 mill last year and not even so much of a thank you, drop dead, piss off etc… from him.Yet we get news letters about us being a “Family Team”’And this is a 1 person owned llc./ end rant.Ok, done.
odd that they never take any time off to see their son and his family. guess they would rather spend the time alone. i don’t think Gene has been with them for a holiday in like 10 years.
Meh, don’t complain. Next year it falls on a Saturday. But at least the gods of leap years will take pity on us on 2016 when he 4th of July will fall on a Monday.
I recall a cartoon long ago in which Arlo was dressed in a suit – think he may have carried a briefcase – and got sidetracked before he could get out the door.
The place I work is closed on Friday. Since we don’t get paid for days we don’t work, holidays take a bite out of my paycheck. When Christmas Eve, Christmas and New Year’s day all fall in the same pay period, I feel like the Grinch.
Also, if it is a one-person limited liability corporation earning sales of one billion dollars and that one person only keeps ten percent of that, it sounds like 90% of income is going out in labor and other expenses
I retired from a National Lab (non-profit). I tired of working for managers who were absolute idiots. It took ≈ six months but I managed a transfer to another Division. The next 19 years were much better. So, if you’re “trapped” in a crappy job, sometimes, there are other options than quitting.
You must be a public employee, Janis… in the real world, working for For Profit corporations, people didn’t get an extra day off after the 4th last year…

And yet many of us work 24/7/365 for places that need to stay open.

and then there are the places that have to stay open so that those of the us that work 24/7/365 don’t starve. And I am very grateful for those places.

I liked working holidays; double time and a half. If it was a Monday following a worked Sunday; 30 hours pay for eight hours.

We always start celebrating the day before because it’s my son’s birthday. He’s 17 today.

What company does she work for? Any time that the 4th of July fell on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, that was the only day I got off.

Crushing Arlo’s spirit as women are wont to do.

After 24 years in the military and 5 years in Fire/EMS all holidays are just another day to me.

Janis made a factual statement, nothing wrong with that. Arlo was around last July, he was there for that 4 day weekend.
