Jazmine: So you really couldn't tell I was part-black when we met?
Cindy: Nope.
Jazmine: Really? Not at all?
Cindy: I didn't even think about it.
Jazmine: Hmmm...
Cindy: I just figured you were having a really bad hair day.
I like the way McGruder uses hair as an extension of the character’s personalities. Cindy’s long flowing locks, Jasmine’s equally long but very different hair, reflecting her ambivalence about herself, Huey’s ‘fro which is as passive-agressive as he is, Riley’s ‘doo of the day, and even the Grandfather’s short nap.
Jazmine has me a bit confused. Here she is surprised that Cindy could not tell she was part black. Meanwhile, with Huey she vehemently denies being black. I hope she doesn’t turn out to be one of those poor souls who think of themselves as white and hate themselves for being black.

Cindy clearly had preconceived ideas, of what Black people are. Jasmine did not fit into those ideas.
