I have never eaten a s’more. Until I spent a few weeks in the US earlier this year, and saw an advert for them, I had never even heard of s’mores. Now I know what they are, I must say they sound revolting.

Pun control? Andy advocates all kinds of control. She is the control-freakiest character in the comics, even more so than Lucy in “Peanuts”.

If you can get a plain graham cracker these days and not one of the ‘flavored’ one, s’mores are great. I had them at church camp and Girl Scout camp back in the 50s and 60s. Marshmallow – burnt and runny. Yum!

I remember them back in the 50’s when I was in Girl Scouts. The treat was actually called an “ore”. Don’t ask me why. But people would always ask, " Do you want some ores?" Hence the name, s’mores.

Glad he got his just desserts.

At least he said “our children” instead of “YOUR children”. Roger does take responsibility… sometimes… maybe… kinda.

Having raised two daughters, I am familiar with Girl Scout traditions. As noted by Rose Madder, they can be a tasty treat on a cool fall or winter evening while sitting around a roaring fire!.We had a fire pit behind our last home, and making “s’mores” was a regular event when the girls were little. Of course, mom & I would occasionally make one or two, and share bites..Of one of the s’mores, of course…

Roger’s idea of a camping trip never ends well, and he deserved to get desserted by his kids.

S’more appears to be a contraction of the phrase “some more”. The first recorded version of the recipe can be found in the publication Tramping and Trailing with the Girl Scouts of 1927.3 Although the exact origin is unclear, reports on the group as early in 1925 describe them.4 Merriam-Webster marks 1974 as the first use of S’more,1 though recipes for “Some Mores” are in various Girl Scout publications until at least 1973. In 1968 Clarice Nelms provided the following recipe: Place a square of milk chocolate on a graham cracker. Toast a marshmallow and put on top of the chocolate, then a second graham cracker on top of the toasted marshmallow and squeeze and you will want “s’more”.5 Still earlier references exist, such as the camp recipes section in the 1963 “Outing Activities and Winter Sports Guide” stating “By now, readers who watch their weight are probably rising in protest since none of these recipes could conceivably be called low calorie. But after all, camping trips are supposed to be fun. Why not relax, enjoy yourself, and have s’more?”
