This is 2010. The Republicans can invoke a historic number of filibusters without having to actually TALK.

Nowadays just the threat of a filibuster is enough.

Pan filibusters if you want to. Just wait until reconciliation gives you a bogus, white elephant of a money sucking entitlement instead of real health care. Then you’ll suddenly love filibusters.

jrbj: you are so right–the last time reconciliation was used to ram a bill through, we got this bogus “entitlement “program under which the wealthy were “entitled” to a massive tax cut and the government was “entitled” to spend like tomorrow would never come.

    jrbj - Concur! Well stated!

Puddleglum1066 - Now the middle class *IS* “the wealthy”. 1% of “the wealthy” pay 49% of all the taxes. We don’t need to kill them off with more taxes, we need to drastically shrink government and government spending! Yet Obummer just created ANOTHER useless, money sucking bureaucracy for Climate Studies to promote Gore-Bull warming policies based upon doctored data. See www.junkscience.com.

Guys who want to shrink gov spending: They already have. The snow stays on the back streets of my town until it melts. The cops are down to minimum. The garbage service is farmed out at a higher cost. I know you want them to trim fat, but instead they trim meat and keep the fat. If you want cost cuts, You better be prepared for no mail, no federal road service, No Social Security, No medicare, no auto regulations like lemon laws. No VA benefits. No small business incentives. No scholarships or education grants. No PROTECTIONS as well as no regulations. Careful what you wish for as you don’t have any control which way it goes. And my taxes would be a LOT less if we didn’t have to pay off China for a loan that NO ONE regulated.

    Right on, treBsdrawkcaB.

I have never worked for a poor person in my life, or at least gotten paid for it. Taxing the creators of jobs and the individuals working the jobs is double dipping.

Fairest tax of all would be to only tax businesses and corporations. Their cost would be passed on only to those users of their goods or services. Thus no one group of consumers would be subsidizing another. Easiest way would be a national sales tax with no exemptions.

That’s right freeholder1, they cut spending on important services… and then vote to raise their own pay.

Philibuster until all the taxocrats are thrown out. We can’t wait 3 more years to get communism out of our White House. They need to be kicked out NOW! Through the same back door they all came in through to override our republic without our permission.

The Senate filibuster is an odious rule that should be abolished immediately! It is totally UNdemocratic, and is making a mockery of our legislative system. It is a made-up rule and there is no mention of it in the Constitution. In fact Alexander Hamilton said this on the topic of the super majority:

“All provisions which require more than a majority of any body to its resolutions have a direct tendency to embarrass the operations of the government and an indirect one to subject the sense of the majority to that of the minority… The history of every political establishment in which this principle has prevailed is a history of impotence, perplexity and disorder.” -Federalist No. 75

Right, it’s only ok when the democrats do it. No issues with it then.

Hamilton was a pro big government, pro big bank liberal, who would take and leave morality in issues at will, whenever it served his purpose.

Anybody else here do any reading on how demagogues of all persuasions used to stall useful debates in the Athenian general assembly?

Plus ca change, plus ca c’est la meme chose (the more things change, the more they stay the same)…including the tendency to blame everyone else’s political party but one’s own for what is a universal human tendency.
