I wonder if Lynn had this strip in mind when she decided to re-introduce Deanna via the car crash. Still, these original strips showing Mike and Deanna acting like kids are much, much better than the new-runs Lynn has done in the past year to make it as subtle as being hit by a wrecking ball that Mike has been in love with Deanna since pre-school, with his itching stomach and his body not being ready for her to move, etc. Today’s strip, although unlikely a six-year-old would already be considering marriage, at least shows kids acting more like kids.
my best friend has been married for over 30 years to the girl who put in the yearbook that her “ultimate doom” would be having him around. talk about “famous last words!”
“although unlikely a six-year-old would already be considering marriage,” - don’t you believe it! My five year old daughter has for the past two years been unswerving in her intention to marry a boy she met at preschool. She has the wedding day and after party planned too :) Now her three year old sister has picked out a prospective husband too!
AdamsFamily1MW - you’d be suprised at what kids think of at that age. I remeber when I was baout that age, several people had it in mind who they were going to marry.
Yes, my four year old has a “boyfriend” in pre-school, although thank goodness she thinks it’s gross to kiss on the lips. When my older one was in Kindergarten, it was almost a class sport to announce who was “marrying” who that week. I think it’s all hilarious because none of us really know!
I don’t get it why she has to move. When I was a kid in school and “bothered” someone else, I was always sent to the back of the room and they got to remain where they were seated.
My daughter, after going to Sunday School at age 4, came home and announced, “There sure are a lot of nice little boys in my class!” “…but I’m going to wait and see how tall they get before I decide who I’m going to marry.”
She wound up marrying the tallest one of them all. :-D
Her lisping alone is reason enough to reconsider. At least she had some hair when she was young though.
If panel 1 happened today, they would call the police on him and expel him.
Don’t tell me they wouldn’t. It’s been in the news numerous times. They can’t touch each other at all. They just committed a first grader for throwing a tantrum in class. That’s how ridiculous it’s become.
So true to life. My kids both had girlfriends in Kindergarten and were so hurt when the girls moved. Wonder what would have happened if they had stayed? Meanwhile, my boyfriend pushed me off the big rock we were playing on when I was four and I broke my arm. I forgave him and we didn’t break up until I was six.
Boy, Michael likes to grope on Deanna because obviously he is in love with Deanna very much. Maybe I think Deanna doesn’t know that Michael crushes on her instantly.

That was about the age I was when I first fell in love with a boy in my kindergarten class. I don’t remember anything about it at all but according to my mother, I was very insistent that I was going to marry him someday! I didn’t, of course (because I never saw him again after we “graduated” from kindergarten and moved on to the first grade), but I believe that kids that young do sometimes “fall in love” — even if (like in Michael’s case) it’s just one-sided!
As I remember it, Michael went through several girlfriends before he reconnected with Deanna – wonder if that will happen again or if it will be smoother sailing.

So, this is Deanna? I started reading FBOW for the first time when Mike was a teen.

That word, Susan is “lean.” As in Michael leaning against Deanna: lean-n-n. I bet even Lynn missed the similarity to “Deanna.”

I know someone who married the boy she liked in pre-school. They met again in their 20’s, and they’ve been married ever since. It does happen!

I thought he’d fallen asleep and ended up leaning over onto her, and the poking and nudging was her trying to get him awake…
