Men teach this boys to NOT say “I love you as a friend” to other men. They also teach them to NOT say “I love you.” to male cousins, uncles, grandpa’s etc. It is seen as un-masculine. It has taken me many years to be able to say to my cousin: “Hey, I love ya man!”

I hate to admit it but I have trouble with those words. I was brought up Show, don’t say. Can I get disability?

Good for you, Lewreader. The first step is admitting that you have a problem. :-) It’s not easy though. Even though I’m female, I didn’t grow up in a family that freely said “I love you”.

It is times like these that foreshadow the future of these two characters. First is when Lawrence comes out of the closet and tells Michael that he is gay. Michael does a lot of soul searching and comes to the realization that Lawrence is still the same friend that he knew from childhood, and later on, when Michael is married and has a family of his own, Lawrence and his partner would babysit for his child.

Allan Leprechaun - And in this day and age, guys may be worried that it will be misinterpreted to mean a different kind of love. Men don’t usually need to hear the words like a female does, they tend to rely on the actions instead. (I have 3 brothers & 2 sons, in addition to my hubby, and now deceased father, so I’ve had plenty of opportunity to observe male culture.)

Lawrence owes Michael a LOT of his toys, since he smashed Michael’s bike up.

Michael IS saying that he cares for Lawrence as his friend in panel 2, the way a kid would say it.

Michael, which one would be better, Lawrence as friend or his toys? If you choose Lawrence as a friend than toys, you should be proud to have him as your friend.

i never was allowed to tell another male (relative or other wise) i loved them when my father was alive, but it became commonplace after he died when i was 14.

my late wife’s family though was very vocal and physical about demonstrating that feeling which was kind of confusing to me growing

i had known her family since i was 10

The problem with love is that so many consider it a four letter word for copulation. That’s the reason I say I Luv You!

It’s tiime for Elly’s fans to become a little more vocal. Her critics abound. I’d like to see some of these commenters’ children. And nobody can jump on me, I didn’t mention any names !!!
