Seriously though, I agree with other posters, what’s with the lemmings arcs? They’re not very funny, and we all know that lemmings don’t jump off cliffs.

Gary Larson did the ultimate lemming cartoon years ago, probably in the 80s. Far Side fans know the one I mean. Pastis is trying to recapture that moment of comics gold.

Pastis peaked over 10 years ago with the “That bug zapper’s a godsend” cartoon (which is still one of my all-time favorites). Except for the puns, it’s been all downhill since then.

I like the lemmings and the puns are great too. Keep up the good work Stephan. If the moaners really didn’t like your strip they would not be reading it everyday.

This arc is over the cliff. And somewhat hyperbolic.

I’m surprised gocomics didn’t stop publication of this comic , in light of recent suicide by Robin Williams. Though I’m sure Robin would have been tickled by it himself

Don’t understand what people have against lemmings. For me, a gin and tonic wouldn’t be the same without a slice of one.

I know this was written and drawn probably months ago, but this is bad timing, because actor/comedian Robin Williams took his own life yesterday :( may he rest in peace

One thing about the lemmings arcs is that they’re visual. Mort Walker was once told by an editor: “If you cover up the art and your comic strip is still funny, you’re not a cartoonist, you’re a writer.” (That being said, I’ve often wanted to see “Pogo Without Art” simply for the great dialogue…….)

I like the lemmings. The only character I don’t care for is the hippo. My friend isn’t a huge fan of the crocs, which I don’t get because I love them. My point is, everyone has favorites and Pastis shouldn’t kill off any of them. Not that it matters because he brings them all back to life at some point.

I Love Pearls. Best comic since Calvin and Hobbes and the Far Side. I think this strip, however, is poorly times with the death of Robin Williams. Just my opinion.

Hey Stef the lemming stuff doesn’t work very well. Seems as if it is the same joke over and over and over.

So your basically saying that we should not expect every one of Pastis’ offerings to be a Pearl.

I wish Pastis would stop the lemming jokes mostly because they are a constant reminder of Disney’s horrible slaughter of lemmings just to make a stupid movie. It has been repeated so many times people think lemmings do jump off cliffs. Why not go for the Disney jugular and do a series of strips about them driving them off the cliff? Others have successfully taken on animal testing, etc through the comics. Why not this?

I wish these sad, little lemmings strips would end.

The last lemming to jump should just push off and make them all fall at the same time
