Looks to me as if Oldbot was designed with a retro look and feel in the first place.

That chip will have him sitting in a bathtub facing the sunset with another ‘bot’ in the other tub…and having no idea what he should do about this stupid situation.

Johanan Rakkav: In the early strips, he was made to look like the robot from Lost in Space, but his appearance was changed to avoid lawsuits. Guess Tim’s lawyers weren’t willing to just let the chips fall where they may.
