I was on my way to the mall when I saw three heavy cruisers with flashing lights stopped at the intersection. I thought there had to have been accident but when I rolled by, it was just a bunch of police officers hassling a homeless panhandler. This situation definitely did not need that many cops.

    5th runs north-south, not east-west in Philly!

Phoenix is numbered like that. from Central Avenue west it’s 7th Ave, 43rd Ave, etc., then if you go east from Central it’s 1st Street, 15th Street, etc. Everything north of Washington St is North such & such, and everything south is South such & such. The developers actually thought ahead when they made Phoenix. It’s pretty hard to get lost there as long as you have the north or south, street or avenue designation correct. Almost all the roads are straight lines. Grand Avenue runs diagonally through the town. It follows a railroad, so that is a bit of a pain since you have a 6-way intersection with a train adding a seventh complication.

It happens to other agencies as well. Our house was built in 1973 and in 2004 the water dept. couldn’t figure out where to turn the water back on (lived out of town for awhile and people steal water there) when they went to the West side of the street instead of the East. The houses are numbered identically and they still can’t figure this out after all these years.

This could actually be traumatic. And in real life can sometimes lead to tragedies. Fortunately, Joe is a good cop, and acts with professionalism. But good cops don’t make the news.

I know comics are drawn many weeks before publication, but still: Really bad timing for this strip

I read prior posts, and this is beyond horrific. You would think that the intelligence gathered to determine the use of this type of fire power in an overt tactic on this magnitude, using tax payer money, was verified PRIOR TO entering the designated area. Who the hell is responsible for the investigative findings!! I think Armstrong is using these panels to also take a dig at the new laws which define terrorism in the Patriot Act in this country. Big guns for average citizens “normal Nancy” in her hair rollers. Really big brass!!

I am sure timing can’t be avoided, but at any time, this happens too often to be even a bit funny.
